The River Wye

A Premier Angling Destination

The Wye and its tributaries offer some of the best fishing opportunities in Mid Wales. The main river Wye runs around the back of the site and has many opportunities to fish.

You may be interested in Grayling fishing in the Autumn or Trout in the Spring or maybe even the mighty Salmon, they are all numerous here along with Chub and Pike and lower down the river there are Barbel.

Rhayader & Elan Valley

The Rhayader and Elan Valley Angling Association offer fishing on the rivers Wye and Elan along with some wild trout fishing in Claerwen reservoir and the Claerwen river.

Elan Visitor Centre

Issues permits for fishing on some of the Elan valley dams, wild trout lakes and streams.

Glaslyn Estate

Situated about 3 miles south of Rhayader. Includes the Elan / Wye junction pool. Good grayling and trout water with back end salmon given the right water conditions.

Doldowlod Estate

About 6 miles downstream of Rhayader. Superb Grayling water in the autumn with many fish over 2lb. Tickets available from the Wye and Usk Foundation.

Builth Wells

14 miles down river. Serious salmon fishing given good water conditions. Includes lovely fly water and good chub fishing.
